In search engines, everything starts with a query. You put a set of words and phrases in the search box, press search, and get a series of results based on what you searched for. Thus, whatever you put in the search query box, you will get results accordingly.
But, the search systems don’t always work perfectly. Sometimes, you don’t get the best-matched results. Or, there isn’t enough information available on the internet related to your search query.
But, now, you don’t need to worry about this problem as Google announced a new feature to help users get great matches in the search results.
Read on to learn more about the new Google feature.
What’s Google’s New Search Feature?
Google is a popular search engine. They continue to work towards improving search results by launching new updates. In June 2019, Google launched the Core Search Algorithm Update, which was focused on curbing fraudulent affiliate sites from affecting the ranking of genuine websites.
When you search in Google, they provide the best results possible. But sometimes, it’s not possible.
Google tries to prevent this from happening. Misspellings can result in low-quality results. They detect typos and spelling errors, thus predicting the proper spellings and showing results. In other words, you will be able to find sites containing the information you are looking for even if you spell something wrong.
Google says that they are improving their language understanding capabilities in search. Thus, the search systems can provide the best-matching results if the query doesn’t match word-for-word.
Here’s what Google said in a recent blog post-
“Starting today in the U.S., we’re rolling out a new message that lets you know when Google hasn’t been able to find anything that matches your search particularly well. While you can still go through the results to see for yourself if they’re helpful, the message is a signal that we probably haven’t found what you’re looking for. When possible, the feature will also provide some alternative searches as well as tips on how you could reformulate your query to better find the information you seek.”
However, Google shares some effective techniques to improve search results-
- Searching social media – add @ in front of a word. For example, @facebook
- Searching for the price – add $ in front of the number. For example, $300
- Searching hashtags – add # in front of the word. For example, #seoupdates
- Excluding words from the search – add – in front of the word. For example, Audi speed -car
- Searching exact matches – add “ in the beginning and end of the search query. For example, “best SEO strategies 2020”
- Searching price range – add .. between the two numbers. For example, mobile phone $300..$500
- Combining search results – add OR between two search queries. For example, car OR bike
- Searching related sites – add related: in front of the URL. For example, related:menshealth.com
- Seeing the cached version of a site – add cache: in front of the URL
- Searching for exact image size – add imagesize:widthxheight. For example, imagesize:1200×600
Expert Tips to Improve Search Engine Ranking of a Site
Improve Site Speed
Your site’s speed is important for various reasons. Firstly, if your site takes longer to load, users leave it just after clicking. Moreover, Google considers site speed an important ranking factor.
Researchers say 40 percent of the visitors leave a site if its loading time exceeds 3 seconds. Not only this, but 80 percent of these visitors don’t return to the site. This will directly affect traffic and SEO ranking.
Some best strategies to improve site speed are—enabling compression, optimizing images, improving server response time, and reducing redirects.
Publish High-Quality Content
Content is king. There’s no doubt in this. Visitors want to get complete information from one place rather than scrolling through many websites. Thus, you should start focusing on producing and publishing high-quality, engaging content from today.
Moreover, updating your site content regularly is important. If you post the content once and won’t update it, your site won’t be able to perform well in search engines.
Dwell time is an important SEO ranking factor, which is characterized by the amount of time visitors spend on your site per visit. If you post fresh, engaging, unique content on your site, users will spend more time. On the other hand, posting low-quality content or not updating it regularly will make visitors leave your site. Thus, Google will consider that your site doesn’t contain important information, thus moving it to lower places in the SERPs.
Use Header Tags
Headings help in breaking down the content, thus making it easy-to-understand by the visitors. Using header tags make your content appealing, improve the user experience of your site, thus boosting its SEO ranking.
If your site contains long paragraphs of text without any headings, your visitors will bore and leave your site.
So, when producing blog posts, always use proper headings to break down the content pieces. If you are running your site on WordPress, you can use six headings i.e. H1 to H6.

About 60 percent of the searches are performed from mobile devices. If your site doesn’t perform well on mobile, mobile users won’t be able to access it properly. Thus, Google will rank it lower in its search results.
Build High-Quality Links
Building quality outbound links is one of the major factors that affect the credibility of a site. However, be sure that you build links only on trustworthy sites, and the statistics you are using are recent. You can use various strategies while linking to other sites.
Moreover, you should also focus on building internal links i.e. linking the site pages to each other. Check for broken links regularly, and fix the problem immediately.
Search engines keep on improving their search systems to deliver visitors with the best results possible. They make new strategies and launch algorithms to showcase sites that provide high-quality, unique content. Whatever you put in the search engines, you will get the best-matched results. But, sometimes search systems are unable to provide great matches. To fix this problem, Google announced a new feature, which notifies you to modify your search query to get the best-matched results.
